My name is Alicia Haley. I am a Peace Corps Volunteer from the United States. I came to Namibia in October 2003. I spent 3 months learning about the culture, studying Afrikaans and living with a host family for 5 weeks. I did most of my training in Okahandja at the Andreas Kukuri Center. My host family lived 2 hours away in a part of Otjiwarongo called Orwetoveni.
After swearing in on January 9, 2004 I successfully transitioned from a Peace Corps Trainee to a Peace Corps Volunteer. I arrived in Swakopmund on January 10, 2004. I have LOVED this town ever since! I never expected to live in a seaside resort when I joined the Peace Corps, but that is what I got!
I work at the Teachers' Resource Centre. I help develop workshops on Phonics and help teach reading skills to teachers. I look forward to helping the teachers of Namibia.
